Summoning worlds based on other traditions?
After my post on Kabbalist Sefira skills for summoning, I started thinking about drawing on other cultures for evocations. There is a rich history of summoning across many cultures. Why limit an entire Occult Science to a single occult tradition? Sorcery and Alchemy, even revised under Enlightened Magic, aren’t so completely tied into Hermeticism. Enlightened Sorcery is easy to dress up with styles from other cultures like the Taoist Wuxing. Enlightened Alchemy has the benefit of being a historically pan-Old World tradition that was shared across the Silk Road. Why can’t we do the same with Summoning?
Long story short: I think it’s best to drop the concept of realms based on skill thresholds. We already have Contract values and Ruptures to provide a balancing factor. As I wrote in my post on Kabbalist summoning, I think it would make more sense to divide Summoning into several skills corresponding to Sefirot on a 1:1 basis. If you’re not using Sefirot, then it’s not necessary imo.
In future posts I’ll try to devise a new structure for summoning using the Good Ministers of the Enochian Aethyrs without the Kabbalist structure. While I think the Kabbalist tradition has its place, I don’t think it should be the whole of Summoning.
