Enlightenment and magic resistance

The Nephilim rulebook p139 and Enlightened Magic supplement p12-3 differ a bit in how they handle awakening/enlightenment and magic resistance.

The Nephilim rules distinguish magic resistance like so: Nephilim resist magic at full Ka value, awakened humans resist with halved Solar-Ka value, and most other humans cannot resist magic at all. Mithradites can resist at full Solar-Ka value (see Secret Societies p73).

Nephilim and other elementals resist with the same Ka-element as that of the spell (it's not explained what happens if an elemental doesn't have that Ka-element, but presumably this means resistance is impossible). Humans resist with their Solar-Ka.

The Enlightened Magic rules distinguish magic resistance like so: the enlightened resist magic at full POW value and the unenlightened resist at halved POW value. Seers have mystic vision and can resist magic at full POW value, but cannot cast magic themselves. There's no distinction between different elemental characteristics, so POW is always used to resist.

In the French version, a rule was added in 2nd edition that allowed Nephilim to resist magic with a Ka-element opposed to the spell's. There was also a rule for resistance fatigue: after the first resistance roll per Ka-element, subsequent resistance rolls are replaced by automatically losing 1 point from the affected Ka-element. This damage was temporary and recovered on the next day corresponding to that element, faster in a nexus or corresponding plexus, or slower in an area where the magic fields were weak.

I leave it up to GMs which version to use. It really depends on how powerful you want magic to be. The Nephilim rules make magic very effective against the unenlightened, whereas enlightened magic isn't so overwhelming.

In my homebrew, I use Solar-Ka for all magic resistance. Since my Nephilim are fusional beings, they're able to resist magic with the Solar-Ka of their current incarnation and as usual are entitled to experience checks. However, their Solar-Ka may not exceed their permanent Dominant Ka rating.
