More musings on Assuaging and Entropy
What follows are my current latest musings on Assuaging and Entropy, largely based on 3e.
My rules for Assuaging are much the same as that given in Ian’s notes, with the following adjustments:
If the Selenim is Assuaging the same emotion as one of their Emotional Traits, they add that Trait as a bonus to their Ka value. This is similar to fulfilling a Trait (see Chronicle of the Awakenings p58).
The modifier for familiarity varies between −20%, −10%, +0%, +10%, or +20%. Each step takes progressively more effort. Reducing the −20% penalty for a complete unknown to −10% only requires a few minutes of casual conversation, while any bonus will require months of interaction. (This bit is based on 5e.)
The points drained/transferred are equal the emotion’s Intensity Potential, not one-tenth of the Selenim’s Ka. This generally ranges from 0–5, e.g. from a coma patient to a fundamentalist witnessing a miracle. For a group of any size, multiply this value by 1.5 (rounded up).
The Selenim drains the target’s Ch’awe, not Solar-Ka, which recovers as normal. She cannot normally Assuage any target unless their Ch’awe pool is full, but otherwise has no time limits.
Selenim may only Assuage living mortals. Ghosts and other Immortals cannot be Assuaged.
The Selenim’s Black Moon Ch’awe Pool, or “Pool” for short, spontaneously loses 1 point every night at solar midnight. This loss is multiplied at certain times and places: when the Moon is Full or New (×2) and/or when the Black Moon Field is Absent (×3), Hollow (×2), Gibbous (×0.5) or Plenilunar (×0). (See my posts on Black Moon astrology for details.) These modifiers stack: e.g. a Selenim at a place of Absent intensity under a Full Moon loses 6 points at midnight, while a Selenim at a place of Plenilunar intensity doesn’t suffer any loss regardless of the lunar phase.
If a Selenim’s Pool ever falls to 0, then she loses 1 point from her Core every hour thereafter until she adds at least 1 point to her Pool. If her Ka falls to 0, then her elemental essence dissolves into the magic fields. Her Simulacrum doesn’t die but permanently becomes a mindless zombie. Only Third Circle Black Summoning or Necromancy may recall a Selenim lost to Entropy.
Lost points from the Core return at a rate of 1 per fortnight on the first and last quarter. This only recovers points lost through attack damage or Entropy. Points willingly sacrificed to enchant artifacts are permanent and only recovered through experience.
Hope you enjoyed!
