Recovering Ch'awe through other means?
The standard rules for recharging Ch'awe are boring. It naturally regenerates at the rate of 1 point per hour. Why even have it in the first place? It doesn't exist in the French version and it's unlikely for PCs to cast enough spells in a short period of time to exhaust themselves.
So I thought of changing the ways that Ch'awe is recharged in order to make it more important. Instead of regenerating on its own at the rate of 1 point/hour, characters only regain Ch'awe by performing specific actions:
- Regain X Ch'awe per meal of food and water, counting up to 3 meals per day.
- Regain X Ch'awe per 4 hours of sleep.
- Regain X Ch'awe per hour of meditation. A Meditation Skill check is made per hour of meditation to determine the exact amount regained. (Hermits receive an Arcanum Skill Bonus to this check.)
I use "X" here instead of a specific number because these rules will need playtesting to determine the optimum amount.
Note that this only applies to Nephilim and mortals. Selenim and Ar-Kaïm don't keep track of Ch'awe. Selenim track Black Moon Pool, which they recharge by Assuaging the emotions of mortals. Ar-Kaïm track an Essence Pool for each Ka in their Heart, which they recharge spontaneously through astrology, actively through symbolic behavior, or magically by tapping sources of Ka.
